ABSTRACT

The environment is being degraded on a daily basis as a result of human activities like auto traffic, mining and agriculture among others. This has made environmental assessment studies and monitoring a matter of global attention considering our growing population Studies have also revealed that adverse health are associated with the pollution of the ecosystem by heavy metals which are easily bio accumulative but not biodegradable. This project is aimed at assessing the level of metal concentrations in soils of selected part of badagry area, southwestern Nigeria. Sixteen (16) soil samples were randomly collected in selected areas of Badagry. The samples were air-dried at room temperature, disaggregated, sieved through a 76µm mesh size and stored in a well-labeled polythene bags. The analytical method employed is Ultra Trace Inductively Coupled Plasma Emission Spectroscopy coupled with mass spectrometry (UT-ICP-ES/MS).

ABSTRACT This research determined heavy metal concentrations around some selected major dumpsites (Gosa and Mpape) in the FCT, Nigeria. Soil sample were collected at top soil (0-15cm) and sub soil {15-30cm) with a stainless soil augar and transferred into well labeled polyethene bags and taken to the laboratory for analysis. The concentrations of... Continue Reading
ABSTRACT Sustainable use of soils requires in-depth knowledge of the formation, genesis and properties of soil. ABSTRACT This study was undertaken to assay the elemental concentration in some Irish potatoes and soils from farmlands in an ex-mining area at Dahwol-vwana village, Jos-south L.G.A, Plateau state, Nigeria. The total heavy metal concentrations (for Irish potato and soil samples) were obtained using Atomic Absorption Spectrometer. It was observed... Continue Reading
ABSTRACT The sedimentary record, as revealed in sediment cores, can be used to reconstruct the past history of contaminant input into the aquatic environment. This is because contaminant inputs equilibrate rapidly with sediment supply, and the sediment column represents a continuous sequence of sediments that are associated with contaminant...
